Long-time sponsor ends partnership with Hockey Canada
After pausing it's sponsorship with Hockey Canada in 2022 amid the investigation into sexual assault allegations, payouts and how Hockey Canada handled the entire situation, Nike has announced that it will no longer be a sponsor for Hockey Canada itself. The announcement comes a week after Bauer Hockey stated they would continue their partnership with Hockey Canada following the appointment of Katherine Henderson as the President and CEO.
In a statement, Hockey Canada thanked Nike for its longstanding partnership and said the organization respected Nike's decision not to continue as a partner of Hockey Canada. Nike did say that they would continue to provide on-ice product for Hockey Canada through their sponsorship with the IIHF, but will not be directly involved with the organization.
Nike is the first major sponsorship that has decided to not continue its partnership with Hockey Canada after a number of partners put their sponsorships on hold amid the investigation. Nike had been a partner of Hockey Canada since 1999. Once the results of the official investigation are known, I can imagine we'll have some additional sponsors making announcements about their affiliation with the organization moving forward.
