On The Steve Dangle Podcast over the weekend, Dangle brought up the fact that the Leafs have never won four playoff series in a single year. He thought he was the one revealing a fun fact, but was surprised himself when co-host Jesse Blake pointed out that the Leafs have never won more than two series in the history of the franchise. Blake noted that the last time the Leafs won the cup in 1967, they only had to win two series.
The shock on Dangle's face said it all. How can a team as historic and iconic as the Maple Leafs never have won more than 2 playoff rounds in a single playoff run?
The Leafs remain the favourites among Eastern Conference playoff teams to go the furthest, so perhaps this will be the year that they finally win a 3rd round and punch their ticket to the Stanley Cup Final.
