Voit, a 5th round pick by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft this past summer, took a violent blindside hit from Windsor's Nathan Ribau. The Spitfires defender was ejected from the game as a result of the hit, which can be seen below.
While the stretcher was brought out onto the ice, as per protocol, it was not needed and Voit was able to make it back to his feet and left the ice under his own power, much to the relief of onlookers.
Per a team source, Voit suffered only a diaphragm spasm on the play. In layman's terms, it was nothing more than having the wind knocked out of him - unpleasant, but thankfully Voit was fine. Obviously, he did not return to the game for precautionary reasons, but he was stable and in good spirits after the game and did not require a trip to the hospital.
Crisis averted, an Leafs Nation will be happy to hear it!
Voit, 18, is enjoying a breakout campaign for the Sting in 2021-22, having essentially doubled his production from the 2019-20 season (28 points in 49 games). The Pittsburgh, PA native has amassed an incredible 55 points through just 44 games thus far this season.
Good news on a Monday, folks! There's nothing like it!
