It's hard enough for the Winnipeg Jets to attract big name free agents because no one wants to go to Winnipeg if they have other options. While they have relied on building their team through the draft, they have struggled in retaining some of their prospects and players that could be considered "homegrown".

First, Patrick Laine wanted out and then the player they traded him for, Pierre-Luc Dubois has said he will be taking 1-year deals until he hits free agency. At the end of last season, Mark Schiefele made some interesting comments about his future, but walked them back and now former first round pick Ville Heinola has said he is frustrated by his situation. Selected 20th overall in 2016, Heinola has struggled to find his way into a full-time spot on the Jets' blueline.

Today, his agent was outspoken and released a statement saying that Heinola is frustrated with the Jets and that he is still not a permanent NHLer. His agent said that he has not been given the proper amount of opportunity and that everyone that has seen him play should know he is a capable NHLer.

Heinola has only played a total of 25 games since being drafted, with 12 of them coming last season. He registered 5 assists in those 12 games. It will be interesting to see how the Jets handle his public frustration, but as the Jets have shown in the past, they are patient when it comes to dealing disgruntled players and will hold out until the right deal comes along.
