The 2022-23 season has been nothing short of a disaster for the Montreal Canadiens, who were hoping to take a step in the right direction after landing the first overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. However, the top pick in the draft, Juraj Slafkovsky, suffered a lower body injury just a couple of short weeks ago and is slated to miss the next 3 months, which has effectively ended his season. Now, unfortunately, the Habs have announced another season-ending injury.

Cole Caufield has 36 points, including 26 goals in 46 games this season, but was injured the other night in the Habs' 6-2 loss to the Panthers. Initially the Habs were hopeful that the injury wasn't going to be too serious, but after additional tests, they announced that Caufield will be out the remainder of the season with a right shoulder injury.

The news of two major injuries for the Habs all but guarantees that they will be in pursuit of the first overall selection again this year with Connor Bedard up for grabs. The Habs are last in the Atlantic Division and sit 26th overall in the league currently, 13 points ahead of last place Columbus. They welcome Auston Matthews and the Leafs to the Bell Center Saturday night.
