The Leafs fell to Tampa (and the officials) 5-3 in game 2, but it wasn't for a lack of trying. After falling behind 5-1, the Leafs made it close in the end with 2 third period goals and had chances to get within 1 and even tie it in the final minutes.

Tampa took advantage of their 7 powerplays while the Leafs went 0-4. The Leafs are now 1-10 on the powerplay through two games and shades of the series against the Habs last season are showing. Their powerplay struggled in that series and is certainly struggling to start this series and changes need to be made. This begs the question, should Jason Spezza play in place of Simmonds in game 3 to add more skill to the second powerplay unit?

The 38-year-old had 3 goals and 2 assists against the Habs last year and although Keefe is opting for a more physical fourth line through 2 games, you have to wonder if Keefe will be willing to go with more the skilled/versatile Spezza over Clifford and Simmonds. Simmonds did not play much after taking a stupid penalty that led to the Lightning's 3-1 goal, in fact, both of his penalties led to powerplay goals for Tampa.

Tampa will surely come out flying and physical Friday night in game 3 as they return home. The Leafs will have to weather the storm for the first 10 minutes at least and stay out of the box. Hopefully the officiating is more along the lines of what we saw in game 1 than last night because last night was atrocious.
