We have heard a lot about the possible trade destinations for Philadelphia Flyers captain Claude Giroux over the last several weeks. The three teams who are rumoured to have shown the most interest are the Colorado Avalanche, the New York Rangers and the Florida Panthers.

The Flyers are also rumoured to be very high on Florida Panthers prospect Owen Tippett, whom the Panthers have reportedly made available in any trade negotiations. Is the framework for a deal there? A new development is not going to do anything to convince anyone that there isn't some smoke there.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, the Charlotte Checkers (AHL) will be holding Tippett out of tonight's game, presumably to protect him from injury while the Panthers work to facilitate a trade.

The Panthers have already made one significant move to acquire a defenseman this week when they moved aggressively on Montreal Canadiens blueliner Ben Chiarot. In that deal, the Panthers gave up a 1st round pick, 4th round pick and a prospect. I don't think it's a stretch to imagine that Giroux will cost the Panthers much more than that.
