Some important news to announce on Thursday, as the NHL has asked the PWHPA and PHF to meet together in an attempt to bring the two leagues together, getting women's hockey closer to a unified professional league than it's ever been.

Details of the meeting are still being worked out, but members of the PWHPA have been told that there's be multi-million dollar funding that would ensure at least an 8-year commitment to the league. One of the PWHPA's end goals when the CWHL folded was to have one fully funded league, similar to the WNBA with the NBA.

We saw just how exciting women's hockey truly is during the Olympics and seeing NBC and CBC's ratings for the gold medal game, there is clearly an audience there. People don't stay up until 2:00am on a week night just because.

It's a great step in the right direction for women's hockey and hopefully to two sides can come to an agreement and have a unified and sustainable league.
