Aube-Kubel slapped with multi-game suspension

Washington Capitals forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel was offered a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety earlier in the day on Saturday following a nasty head shot on Tampa's Cal Foote during Friday's Bolts/Caps game.

The hit was both dangerous and completely avoidable and, as a result, Aube-Kubel has been issued a 3-game suspension. The play occurred just under 2 minutes into the 2nd period and Foote did not return to the game after leaving for concussion protocol and played just over 5 minutes in the game.

Aube-Kubel was lucky to escape with just 3 games for this hit. We've seen similar hits over the years draw 5, 10 and even 20-game suspensions, though the lengthier suspensions are usually reserved for repeat offenders. Aube-Kubel has been fined twice in his career, but has never been suspended.
