Auston Matthews is coming off of a game in Dallas that left him with plenty of bumps and bruises but coming into what should be another rough outing in Winnipeg, Matthews is not even the slightest bit concerned. That's because head coach Sheldon Keefe is dressing a pair of goons to keep the Jets in check.

Matthews touched on the additions of Kyle Clifford and Wayne Simmonds on Saturday afternoon, stating that it's never a negative thing to have two guys in the lineup who are going to keep the opposition honest and deter them from taking liberties on the Leafs' star players.

"Those 2 guys are ultimate teammates, ultimate warriors. They're always going to have your back out there & bring a lot of energy & intensity. I definitely don't think it's a negative thing to have guys like that in your lineup."

Matthews also called Simmonds "family" earlier in the week, revealing that he was thrilled to see him called up from the Marlies and to have him skating with the Leafs at practice all week.

Last time the Leafs and Jets faced off, Wayne Simmonds was tossed from the game and Kyle Clifford dropped the gloves with Jets heavyweight Brendan Dillon. I'd imagine that, with the heat that exists between these two teams, we're probably in for another rough one.
