Engvall suffered an ankle injury during the off-season and has not looked himself. Through five games this season, while averaging 11 minutes and 44 seconds of ice time per night, Engvall has failed to record a point. Quite a disappointing start for the Swedish forward, who posted a career high 35 points (15 goals & 20 assists) in 78 games last season.
Engvall is a polarizing player here in Toronto. He has great speed, but at 6-foot-5, many feel he could use his large frame to play more physical. After a slow start, and with a rough game anticipated against the Winnipeg Jets tonight, perhaps it just made sense for Keefe to give Engvall the night off to allow for the player to come back refreshed next week.
