"I'm just so happy he got it honestly. It was getting a little scary there for a second, but third times a charm. We're also so pumped for him. During this stretch he's been playing unbelievable, leading our team on both sides of the puck and competing every night. We're all so happy for him and obviously took to the last minute of the game and a few scares but we're happy he got it," Matthews said with a massive smile on his face.
Last season, it was Matthews setting records for the Leafs by breaking Rick Vaive's single season goal total and then becoming the first Leaf to ever eclipse the 60 goal mark. Marner has a chance to hold the record all to himself on Saturday when the Leafs visit Tampa in what should be a playoff type atmosphere.
