Robertson has much to prove this upcoming season and has taken that notion seriously throughout the preseason and training camp. After a stellar game against the Senators on Friday, where he scored two goals and assisted on another, Robertson earned a promotion to a top-six spot for tonight's game against the Habs in Montreal. This promotion, in a way, could be viewed as the team giving him an edge in the battle for the vacant spot in the top six.
Robertson, now 21, is beginning to look like an NHL player. He has one of the best shots on the team. Don't believe me? Well, just ask Auston Matthews.
A compliment such as this one from a bona-fide superstar like Auston Matthews must feel good. Even more so when it's earned. Robertson has paid his dues and now he's finally getting the credit that he deserves.
Whether or not Robertson will be in a top-six position come opening night on October 12th is yet to be determined, but he sure can't be counted out - especially with Matthews' endorsement. Tonight's game against the Habs will give a bit of a preview of what that could look like with Roberston slotted alongside William Nylander and Alex Kerfoot (placeholder for John Tavares).
