It's summer break in the NHL, many players are back in their home towns and most haven't been on the ice a whole lot since their seasons ended. Sure there's training sessions and practice, but for the most part they've been relaxing and recuperating after a grueling season. When they do hit the ice, it's often in a group setting close to home.

Auston Matthews was spotted on the ice today at an informal Arizona Coyotes skate. The Leafs 11.6 million dollar man and the reigning Hart, Lindsay and Rocket winner being anywhere near the Coyotes rink is enough to send Leafs fans into hysterics. Ever since Matthews signed a 5 year deal with the Leafs, fans of literally every other team in the NHL have needled Leafs fans about Matthews returning home to Arizona when he hits the free agent market. News of Matthews skating with Arizona in the summer won't help matters.

Of course, these summer skates don't mean anything aside from the fact that Matthews wants to stay sharp and doesn't want to travel all the way to Toronto just to spend a couple of hours on the ice. Even if these informal skates did have meaning, the news would be good for Leafs fans. Auston Matthews may be skating in Arizona, but Connor McDavid is skating in Toronto!
