What was originally a story of perseverance and mental fortitude is now one of the officiating once again dropping the ball and missing a call that you simply have to call 100% of the time.

During the overtime period, Matthews had his stick grabbed and held by Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun, which took him out of the play, leading to the game-winning goal for the Yotes.

Matthews was RED HOT with the officials for the non-call on Chychrun on the play. The points don't matter to the Coyotes, but they certainly do for the Leafs, and Matthews felt that the Leafs were robbed of one tonight.

Matthews lashed out at multiple officials after the game, and rightfully so. He remains a player who doesn't draw many penalties, so he likely feels as though the referees are simply allowing opposing players to take liberties on him. I'd be frustrated too. The rulebook exists to make the game fair. Officials picking and choosing when to use the book and when to throw it out the window is an embarrassment to the league and I don't blame Matthews for letting the officials hear it after the game.
