The Leafs could find themselves in a bit of a precarious position once again, as Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog has tested positive for COVID-19 less than 48 hours after a 5-4 OT victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Per The Athletic's Peter Baugh, after Landeskog had tested positive, a second test was administered, which confirmed the original positive test result. At this point, the Avs are reporting that Landeskog is asymptomatic.

As if that wasn't enough of a cause for concern, the Arizona Coyotes, who are the Leafs' opponents on Wednesday evening at Gila River Arena in Glendale, AZ, have cancelled practice on Monday for precautionary reasons.

The Leafs are currently in Vegas, preparing for Tuesday's matchup against the Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena in the first half of what was expected to be a back-to-back with the Coyotes on Wednesday.

There is confirmation that the cancellation is due to a positive COVID-19 test in Arizona, and there's also no word yet on whether the Leafs/Yotes game on Wednesday will be postponed. Typically, when a team cancels practice for precautionary reasons, it relates to a positive test.

Leafs fans are rightfully concerned, given the massive outbreak the team had to deal with prior to the holidays, having several games postponed after approximately 20 players, coaches and staff members contracted COVID-19 in December.

The Leafs currently have two players in COVID-19 protocol in Mitch Marner and Pierre Engvall.
