Avs eliminate Blues with under 5 seconds in regulation; May 27th a significant date for Avs goal scorer
The St. Louis Blues have fallen victim to the Colorado Avalanche for the second consecutive postseason, dropping Game 6 at home in the dying seconds of the third period thanks to a buzzer-beater by veteran forward Darren Helm with just under 5 seconds remaining.
What was wild about this goal from Helm was that, 13 years ago to the day (May 27th, 2009), he also scored the series-winning goal for the Detroit Red Wings, punching their ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals. Helm, now 35 years old, pulling off this exciting series-clinching goal for the Avs is a truly remarkable coincidence.
The score may have been 3-2, but this was a game that the Avs could have easily blown out St. Louis, nearly doubling the Blues in shots, 39-20. Now that the Avs finally got the round two monkey off their backs, they'll prepare themselves for a round 3 matchup against the Edmonton Oilers to crown a Western Conference Champion and a ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals.
