The Toronto Maple Leafs drafted Fraser Minten in the second round of the 2022 draft. No one expected him to have the training camp he had ahead of this season, let alone make the Leafs out of camp. Minten played 4 games for the Leafs before they returned him to the Kamloops Blazers of the WHL. Upon his return, Minten was named captain of the Blazers only to be traded to the Saskatoon Blades shortly thereafter.

Since returning to junior Minten has 15 points in 13 games and played his way onto Team Canada for the upcoming World Juniors. Not only did Minten play his way onto Team Canada, but the club announced today that Minten will be captain of this year's team. Minten will don the C and will be joined by Owen Beck, Maveric Lamoureux, Matthew Poitras and Matthew Savoie as alternates.

As Team Canada was together for Christmas Eve, they received a FaceTime from Toronto Maple Leafs captain John Tavares and his two sons, who made the announcement in front of everyone.

"It's a very awesome Christmas present to start the tournament here. It was pretty cool. I haven't seen him a bunch since I left his house there, but got pretty close with him and his boys when I was there, so that was pretty sweet, said Minten. "He's a Canadian hero, obviously, and a great leader and good person as well, and a good friend."

Minten will wear the C for Canada in game action for the first time on Boxing Day when Team Canada takes on Finland to open their 2024 tournament. Minten is hoping to lead Canada to their third straight gold medal, this time in Sweden.
