Blues head coach has had enough of Jordan Binnington's antics, publicly calls out his goaltender
Jordan Binnington was at it again last night against the Pittsburgh Penguins. With less than a minute to go in the first, Jason Zucker was attempting to chase the puck behind the Blues' net after Binnington played it into the corner. As he was rounding the net, Binnington stuck his glove out and hit Zucker in the face. Initially, Binnington was given a double-minor for high-sticking, but after officials reviewed the play, they removed the penalty. This is because they can only review a double-minor high-stick to confirm the call was correct or to correct it after review. Since there was no stick involved, Binnington did not end up getting a penalty.
Karma came back to bite Binnington though as just under two minutes into the second, Zucker scored, which was all Blues' coach Craig Berube needed to see. He pulled Binnington in favour of Thomas Griess. On his way from the net, Binnington started yelling, like he usually does, at the Penguins' bench which led to him getting a 10-minute misconduct. Following the game, Berube addressed Binnington's actions, which he was not pleased with.
"It's got to stop. It doesn't help anything. Just play goal. Stop the puck.," Berube remarked as he called out Binnington and his actions. Binnington has had a number of these outbursts. Perhaps you'll recall his antics in the playoffs against Colorado where threw a water bottle at Nazem Kadri while Kadri was doing a post-game interview. Binnington could very well find himself stapled to the bench the next couple of games or perhaps even waived or traded if he doesn't stop his stupidity very soon.
