Borje Salming has a video message for fans as he continues to battle ALS
After receiving a heartbreaking update on Maple Leafs legend Borje Salming's battle with ALS just a couple of days ago, Maple Leafs fans have been spreading love and best wishes to Borje and his family - something the Salming family appreciates greatly. Salming even shared a video message with fans from his home in Sweden.
Salming was interviewed by a Swedish news site, Expressen, where the reporter asked him:
Salming, with a big smile on his face, gave an original thumbs up. Salming then followed up by writing a message on his iPad, which he uses to communicate,
Salming yet again showed selflessness and love towards the fans, friends, and family who have supported him throughout his journey as he has throughout his entire professional career. The video is warm enough to bring a tear to the eye of any viewer as it is truly heart-wrenching to see what he is going through on a daily basis. Even with all that he's enduring, he's still thinking about his fans before himself.
Salming was always a warrior on the ice, and he's showing just how strong he is off the ice. Salming, who is seen as both a hero and an idol to many, truly has the heart of a champion. All of Leafs Nation are inspired by his story and have nothing but admiration and love for him. He is not only an exceptional athlete, but he's a lovely human being who treats everyone with respect and affection.
Salming was the face of the 70's and 80's for the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he has been a pioneer in how the game is played in the defensive position. Nicknamed the King, he was one of the best shot-blocking defenseman and European players to ever play the game. It's heartbreaking to see his struggles at just 71 years-of-age, but his courage and will to beat ALS shines through his bright smile and positive attitude.
ALS is a terrible disease for which there is no cure. It's unimaginable what he and his family are going through in this difficult time. We wish only the best for the Leafs legend and his family, as we all spread love and keep him in our thoughts and prayers.
