Fresh off of his visit to Toronto for Hall of Fame weekend and a touching Salming tribute night on Saturday against the Vancouver Canucks, Leafs legend Borje Salming is back in Sweden and was honoured yesterday at the Swedish Ice Hockey Federation's Centennial Gala.

Salming was named to the 100 year's All-Star Team, along with a number of fellow NHL legends, including Nicklas Lidstrom, Henrik Lundqvist, Mats Sundin, Peter Forsberg and Hakan Loob.

While the night was mostly celebratory, Salming fans were concerned about his appearance, as he was sporting quite the collection of markings and scabs on the right side of his face.

There is some speculation that Salming may have taken a nasty fall or that perhaps the markings may have been caused by a feeding tube or from some form of ALS treatment. The cameras made sure to mostly capture him from the left side, presumably in an attempt to hide the markings.

Whatever the cause, we're glad to see Salming getting the recognition he deserves and to see him honoured and celebrated the way he has been in recent weeks. He was truly one of the toughest players to ever lace up the skates and it's truly unfortunate that he has to face the battle of his life with ALS, as we all would prefer it if the Leafs legend were to live a long, healthy, happy life.
