Some sad news to report on the eve of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft as ESPN's Kevin Weekes has broken the tragic news that 53-year-old Bryan Marchment has passed away.

Marchment was a 1st round draft pick by the Winnipeg Jets (16th overall) back in 1987. He played parts of 3 seasons for the Jets before beginning to establish himself as a more consistent NHLer with the Chicago Blackhawks in 1991. Marchment posted a career high 313 PIMs with the Hawks in 1992-93, before going on to play 12 more seasons split between the Hartford Whalers, Edmonton Oilers, Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks, Colorado Avalanche, Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames.

With his playing days behind him, Marchment became a pro scout for the San Jose Sharks, with whom he had played 6 seasons, including his most productive season (2001-02), posting 22 points in 72 games.

Marchment played 926 NHL games in his 17-year NHL career, notching 2,307 penalty minutes and playing a fearless brand of hockey that was so popular throughout the 80's, 90's and early 2000's.

Marchment passed away in Montreal, just one day before the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The cause of death is unknown at this time.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the San Jose Sharks and the Marchment family, including his son and Florida Panthers winger, Mason Marchment, who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at this time next week.
