Just when we thought the trade deadline was over and done with, the Vegas Golden Knights announced a late trade with the Anaheim Ducks. It's no secret the Knights can't ice their full NHL roster during the regular season because of the salary cap, this trade was aimed at getting them some relief to re-activate one or more of their currently injured players.

The trade, as it was announced was Evgenii Dadonov and a 2nd round draft pick for John Moore and the contract of Ryan Kesler. The move would have taken Dadonov's $5 million cap hit off their books for this season and next and given them 6,875,000 in added LTIR space with Kesler's contract until the end of the season.

The issue is, Dadonov had Anaheim on his 10 team no trade list. There is some controversy brewing about whether or not Dadonov submitted his list on time.

The NHL and the Golden Knights are currently investigating the situation. If the deal doesn't go through, it will be a huge blow to the free falling Golden Knights, who have backed themselves into a corner with their salary cap situation. This is an issue that could cost Kelly McCrimmon his job.

As it stands right now. The Knights will have $1.8 million dollars in cap space with a 19-man NHL roster. They are missing an entire 4th line and they don't have any wingers to call up. If the trade is voided, the Knights will be $3.2 million over the cap with a healthy roster. This trade could make or break the Golden Knights as they are currently constructed. We will continue to monitor the situation and update when information becomes available.
