According to Andy & Rono of AR Hockey Stats, the Boston Bruins have pushed to try to extend Pastrnak this summer and would like to get a deal done sooner rather than later. The problem is that Pastrnak does not feel the same level of urgency to negotiate a deal with the Bruins.
Pastrnak has one season left on his current deal and is scheduled to become a UFA next summer. The 26-year-old is not sold on the Bruins being able to remain competitive with an aging core and does not want to remain in Boston if he won't have a legitimate chance to win a Stanley Cup in the next couple of seasons.
If this is the case, the likelihood that Pastrnak will be dealt this season is very high, as that's not exactly a player you can afford to lose for nothing. If the Bruins trade him this summer, when teams are able to temporarily exceed the salary cap, they'll get a significantly better return than if they wait until some point during the season or at the deadline.
This is going to be an interesting situation as we are now just one month away from training camps and the preseason. I'd imagine that if he's going to be moved, his new team will want him present for camp.
