Bruins forward shows off the damage after almost losing his eye to skate blade
In the midst of the Frozen Frenzy on Tuesday night, Boston Bruins center Jakub Lauko took a skate into the eye area in their game against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Lauko was on all fours on the ice when his teammate John Beecher absent-mindedly shoved Jason Dickinson towards the boards. As Dickinson was pushed, his skate lifted and inadvertently clipped Lauko in and around the eye.
Lauko quickly got up, covered his eye with his left hand, and went straight to the bench with some blood spurting out. He was forced out of the game after having played 9:13 TOI with 2 PIMs and shots on goal. The Bruins eventually won the game by a score of 3-0 with goals from Pavel Zacha, Matthew Poitras, and Trent Frederic. Jeremy Swayman made 23 saves for the shutout.
Lauko tweeted out a picture earlier today showing the aftermath of the gruesome injury. It was very very close to being so much worse but it's good to see that Lauko is being a good sport and most importantly that he is okay.
