A Bruins reporter had released some important information regarding the team on Friday, stating that David Krejci would travel to Boston yesterday with the intent to announce his official retirement - an announcement that may be coming as early as today.
This news comes a month after trading winger Taylor Hall and losing several key pieces in free agency, including Tyler Bertuzzi and Dmitry Orlov. It also follows news that Patrice Bergeron, the team's captain, would also be hanging up his skates and calling it a career after 19 years with the organization.
Krejci, like Bergeron has spent his entire NHL career in Boston, racking up 1,032 regular season games over a 16-year NHL career and producing 231 goals and 786 career points over that span. He also racked up 128 points over 160 playoff games throughout his career. Krejci was a part of the 2011 Bruins team who won the Stanley Cup.
We should never count out the Bruins, but they didn't just lose several pieces this summer, they lost several IMPORTANT pieces this summer and didn't do much to replace them with players of a similar skill level. The Bruins have brought in the likes of James van Riemsdyk, Kevin Shattenkirk, Morgan Geekie, Milan Lucic and Jesper Boqvist to replace their departing group. Also, it bears mentioning that several Atlantic Division teams got better this summer, so it's not even a foregone conclusion that the Bruins will make the playoffs just one year after posting an NHL record 135 points last season.
