Losing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs is never an easy thing to digest for players. Putting in the extra hours at practice, being away from your families for even longer, the grueling schedule. It's a series of mental battles for players and coming up short can be traumatic. For Montreal Canadiens star goaltender Carey Price, losing in the Finals to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2021 was a hard pill to swallow and, he discusses the aftermath for himself following the loss.
In a recent interview Carey Price revealed the most difficult part of suffering that heartbreaking loss after their fairytale run.
"Working for something for over 14 years, being so close and having it ripped away from you at the last moment."
Price also discussed that the therapy provided from the league's player assistance program helped him a lot and encourages anybody that needs to talk access the league's resources.
"Asking for help when you need it is what we encourage our kids to do. And it was what I needed to do."
The 2015 Vezina Winner also mentioned losing sleep over the loss.
Carey Price, 35, has been with the Canadiens for his entire career after he was drafted 5th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. For Price, winning the Stanley Cup is the last award he wants to add to his résumé. Unfortunately with injuries plaguing him ahead of this upcoming season and the direction the Canadiens are going, 2021 was more than likely the last time we will see Price in a Stanley Cup Final.
