Contrary recent rumours, reporter believes he knows where Patrick Kane will sign
Patrick Kane may not be the player he once was, but the former Conn Smythe Trophy and 3-time Stanley Cup winner still brings a lot of skill and experience to any lineup. Expected to miss the start of the season recovering from hip surgery, Kane could bring a much needed boost to whichever team decides to sign him. Kane was traded from the Chicago Blackhawks to the New York Rangers before the trade deadline last season. Now a UFA, Kane is garnering a lot of attention from around the league.
Rumours earlier this week suggested that Kane would be signing in Detroit. It's close to home, they're an up and coming team in need of veteran leadership and he would reunite with former Blackhawks teammate Alex DeBrincat. The fit was there, but according to Arthur Staple of The Athletic, he sees Kane signing elsewhere instead.
Kane knows that the end of his days as an NHL player is coming soon. Signing with a contending team would give him another shot at hosting the Cup before that happens. According to Staple, Kane will stay put and re-sign with the New York Rangers.
Because of his injury, this isn't likely to happen right away. Staple expects Kane to put ink to paper in November once he is fit to play. With elite goaltending, a Norris trophy winner on the back end and players like Kreider, Zibanejad and Panarin up front, the Rangers will be a force to be reckoned with yet again, especially if Kane decides to stay in the Big Apple.
