Crosby was on the 32 Thoughts podcast with Elliotte Friedman and Jeff Marek last week while in Vegas for the annual media event where he discussed if he was going to play after his contract expired, "No I don't think so, I don't want to say no, but I'm leaning towards that not being the case. You know I'm thinking about 3 more years and then seeing what happens from there. I know it doesn't do me any good to look past that."
In saying that, Sid left the door open to continue playing after his contract ends, saying "I know that I want to continue to play at a high level, you know, I played a lot of hockey, it's something that takes a lot of effort. You gotta be invested and your body has to hold up. There's a lot of things that you need to go right to continue to play. I think 3 years is my focus and after that, we'll see where I'm at."
A generational talent and a guaranteed first-ballot Hall of Famer, we all knew Sid wouldn't play forever and, truthfully, there isn't really much left for him to play for. He's accomplished everything a player could want to accomplish in 17 years - multiple Stanley Cups, Olympic golds, World Junior gold, World Championship gold, World Cup of Hockey gold, multiple individual awards.. the only reason for him to keep playing is to pad his stats. Obviously, he loves to play and when he finds his passion is no longer there, he will call it quits.
