Darryl Sutter drops another legendary Darryl Sutter quote, this time about Nazem Kadri
When Nazem Kadri signed his 7-year $49M contract on August 18th with the Calgary Flames, the bittersweet off-season for the Flames seemed to have been completed. Although the former Leaf had faced criticism due to his style of play and seemingly cashing in after one great season, head coach Darryl Sutter seems to have no doubts about Kadri's abilities, already treating him as one of his own.
During an interview on Sportsnet 960 with Eric Francis, Sutter had this to say about Kadri
The 2022 Stanley Cup champion is certainly a winner and if you add that with his physical brand of hockey and quality two-way game, that makes a perfect pairing with the veteran Sutter.
Kadri, soon to be 32 years old, was a huge part of the Leafs' top six during his time in Toronto. Unfortunately the 2009 7th overall pick allowed his emotions to get the best of him when it mattered most and missed time during the playoffs in back-to-back years, which undoubtedly cost the Leafs some playoff success - and thus, he was traded in 2019.
GM Brad Treliving is hopeful that he'll get the same Nazem Kadri that the Avs had this season, especially after parting with fellow agitator, Matthew Tkachuk earlier this summer.
