For the first four years, the former Maple Leaf will earn a salary of $4.5 million, with yearly signing bonuses worth $2.5 million. In year five of the contract, the signing bonus drops to $1 million, while the salary increases to $6 million. For the final two years of the deal, Kadri will be paid out entirely in salary ($7 million per year).
Additionally, Kadri and his agent Darren Ferris were able to negotiate a No-Move clause for the first four years of the deal. In the final three years, Kadri will have a 13-team no trade list.
Kadri is just coming off the six year deal he signed here in Toronto. This new contract is a substantial and well deserved increase from his last deal, which paid him $27 million over 6 seasons, with a cap hit of $4.5 million.
The London native was originally drafted seventh overall in the 2009 entry draft by the Leafs. He has compiled 739 career games for both the Maple Leafs and the Colorado Avalanche. In that time, he has tallied 512 points (219 goals & 293 assists). He is also coming off a career year, in which we saw him post 87 points (28 goals & 59 assists) in 71 games for Colorado. He went on to score 15 points (7 goals & 8 assists) in 16 playoff games, en route to a Stanley Cup win.
While this is a great contract for Kadri and should help the Flames now, one is forced to wonder how well this deal will age, especially for a player with as many hard miles as Kadri has on him.
