The 25-year-old was in his first season in New Jersey after being acquired from the Sharks last year. It has not been an easy run for Jaros as a Devil, missing a month of action with a hand injury earlier this season, dealing with a bout with COVID-19 and then having to endure a series of healthy scratches.
Jaros has appeared in just games with the Devils, registering no points, 1 minor penalty and finishes his Devils career as a -4. Certainly not an idea way to go out. The 6-season NHL veteran has played with the Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks and had a cup of coffee with the Devils before his buyout. There's a strong belief that he could head back to Europe.
The Devils' blue line is likely to look very different at the beginning of next season. With Damon Severson's name having appeared in trade rumours with relative frequency, P.K. Subban's contract expiring and Jaros also on the way out, there will be plenty of room for players like Ty Smith to take a huge leap forward.
Might we see Russian defender Shakir Mukhamadullin coming over to North America from the KHL next season? Is 21-year-old Kevin Bahl NHL-ready? Could Luke Hughes leave the NCAA and turn pro next season? There are lots of intriguing possibilities in New Jersey going forward.
NJ #Devils will place Christian Jaros on unconditional waivers at 2pm ET today for the purpose of contract termination.
