Well, prepare yourself for some more discourse, Leafs Nation, as another former Leaf is now beginning to heat up following the trade that sent him to Long Island. Pierre Engvall has now scored in 3 straight games for the Isles.
Engvall was dealt to the Islanders in exchange for a 2024 3rd round pick in the week leading up to the NHL's March 3rd trade deadline. At the time, the Isles hoped they were plucking a good one away from the Buds, planting Engvall on their top line immediately after the trade. While the top line experiment didn't work out so well, with Engvall going pointless in his first 3 games and slipping down the depth chart fast. Now, he has really found his game in the bottom six on Long Island, potting goals in 3 straight games. This brings him up to 4 points in his last 3 games as an Islander.
I suppose we shouldn't really read too much into Sandin and Engvall's success with their new teams, as these guys weren't performing at the level that they are now while they were with the Leafs. They're making the most of the opportunities that they've gotten with their new clubs and there's no guarantee those opportunities ever would have come when they were members of the Leafs. There's also no guarantee that either continue to produce at the rate that they are currently producing. In a few weeks, we may be able to paint a very different picture.
