A massive scrum ensued where Binnington caught Hartman in the face with his blocker, knocking him down before Marc-Andre Fleury made his way down the ice to challenge Binnington. Unfortunately for hockey fans, the linesmen broke up their encounter before things got started. Binnington's actions led to him being assessed a match penalty, which means he is subject to a suspension.
Following the game, Fleury shared his thoughts on the brawl saying, "One of the the guys said Binnington hit them in the nuts. Then when I saw him throw another one at our guy, that was the time. I'm not surprised. I've seen Jordan do a few things in his career. That't why I went. I made the decision pretty quick."
Hartman also addressed Binnington's actions saying, " I'd say it was a cheap shot. It's nothing new from him. He's been doing stuff like this for a while."
Hartman makes a very good point as this isn't the first time Binnington has let his emotions get the best of him. This season, he has had a few moments, specifically with Jason Zucker, which led to Craig Berube calling him out, saying he needs to worry about stopping the puck.
Binnington will have a hearing with NHL Player Safety later today for his actions in last night's game, which the Wild won 8-5.
