Today, during Treliving's introductory press conference, Leafs' President of Hockey Ops Brendan Shanahan confirmed that there are stipulations and limitations on Treliving until July 1st. Shanahan did not get into specifics, but Chris Johnston confirmed that Treliving won't be a full participant at the upcoming draft. Given that he knows Calgary's plans for the draft, it makes sense and is common practice around the NHL. We can assume that Treliving will not be able to voice his opinion or even be present at the Leafs' draft table or during their scouting meetings on who the Leafs should draft. However, he should still be able to be a participant in making trades, if he chooses to do so at the draft.
It won't be a very busy draft for the Leafs anyway, as they only hold 1st, 5th and 6th round picks in this year's draft. Since Treliving won't have to worry about the draft, he will have more time to focus on more pressing issues such as contract talks with Auston Matthews and William Nylander as well as assessing the list of pending UFAs that the Leafs may want to bring back.
