Following an incident on Saturday, during which Jacksonville Iceman defender Jacob Panetta directed a racist gesture at South Carolina Stingrays defenseman Jordan Subban, the ECHL has announced that it has suspended Panetta indefinitely.

The decision comes less than 24 hours after Panetta mocked Subban with "ape arms" after Subban had asked him to drop the gloves for a scrap, as Subban had revealed on social media.

Panetta has since deleted both his Twitter and his Instagram accounts in an attempt to avoid some of the aftermath stemming from his despicable and reprehensible actions.

Rob Concannon, President of the South Carolina Stingrays has issued a statement on the matter, condemning Panetta's actions and declaring the organization's unwavering support to Jordan Subban.

"The South Carolina Stingrays are disgusted and appalled by last night's incident involving Jordan Subban. Our organization stands in support of our friend and teammate, Jordan, as well as all other players who continue to deal with racism and discrimination. This behavior has to stop and is unacceptable."

In 2022, things like this should not be happening, plain and simple. To take it one step further, the year doesn't even factor in. Things like this should never occur in society.. especially during what is supposed to be a GAME. Someone's skin colour should never make them a target, and the ECHL needs to make an example of Panetta here.
