The Toronto Maple Leafs activated defenceman Rasmus Sandin off of long term injury reserve Thursday night. Sandin's been out of the Leafs lineup since March 19th when a knee injury ended his regular season.

Sandin's game took step forwards this regular season. He had 16 points in 51 games and despite some defensive lapses he proved that he can one day be a top-4 defenceman for the Leafs.

Despite returning from injury, it's unlikely that Sandin draws into the Leafs lineup, at least for now. He hasn't played since March 19th and with Jake Muzzin being back from injury and playing well there isn't really a need for Sandin in the Leafs lineup. Especially when he did not look good in a short stint playing on the right side.

Either way, this is good news for Sandin and the Leafs and it's makes the Leafs defensive core even deeper, knowing that Sandin is healthy and waiting to get in.
