After playing 51 games in the NHL last season with the St. Louis Blues, a former Maple Leaf had found himself without an NHL opportunity this season and has instead opted to sign a deal overseas.

Per Hockey News Hub on Twitter, Josh Leivo has signed a one-year contract with the KHL's Savalat Yulayev, in Ufa. If the team sounds familiar, it's because it is the same organization that the late Rodion Amirov had played for, prior to his tragic terminal cancer diagnosis. Former Toronto Marlie Josh Ho-Sang also signed with Salavat last summer, but has since announced his retirement.

Leivo hasn't been with the Leafs organization since 2018-19, before he was traded to the Vancouver Canucks. The 30-year-old has bounced around a few times since leaving the Leafs, spending time in Vancouver, Calgary, Carolina, St. Louis and a pair of AHL clubs, with the Chicago Wolves and Springfield Thunderbirds.

Leivo has amassed 265 career NHL games, scoring 42 times and adding 51 assists for a total of 93 points over parts of 10 NHL seasons.
