Rachel Doerrie, a former video analyst for the Vancouver Canucks and current member of The Hockey News, joined fellow THN reporter Mikey Stephens on The Staff & Graph podcast and brought up an interesting trade proposal involving Nylander.
We know that the Carolina Hurricanes are looking at potentially moving on from defenseman Brett Pesce. Doerrie also revealed that she believes that Martin Necas is also on the trading block in Carolina. What she proposed on her podcast was a swap between the Leafs and Canes based around Pesce and Necas + for Nylander.
Her co-host pointed to the Matthew Tkachuk deal as a similar one, where the return is two really good pieces, even though Nylander is the clear best piece in the deal.
Honestly, if that ends up being a deal that happens, the Leafs truly could do much worse. Think of the Alex DeBrincat deal between the Red Wings and Senators this week - I think the Sens got fleeced in that deal, especially with all of the conditions surrounding that conditional 1st round pick. Just some food for thought.
