The Winnepeg Jets had the first player in franchise history to be named as the Lady Byng Trophy winner this season, as resident sniper Kyle Connor took home the award. According to the Professional Hockey Writer's Association (PHWA), who vote to decide the winner, Connor was the player adjudged to have exhibited the best type of sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct combined with a high standard of playing ability for this season.

Connor had a career year in 2021-22, scoring 47 goals and adding 46 helpers for 93 points, all career highs. Incredibly, Connor was able to pull this off while collecting only 4 penalty minutes in 79 games. The award was presented by Lucie and Tanya Bossy, the wife and daughter of NHL legend Mike Bossy. Bossy won the Lady Byng Trophy 3 times in his career.

Five Leafs players recieved votes for the Lady Byng Trophy, with Mitch Marner finishing 4th, Aston Matthews 10th, Jack Campbell 22nd, Tavares 43rd and Rasmus Sandin tied for 57th. It's surprising to see Matthews' name on the list, as he was suspended for 2 games this season for a nasty cross check on Buffalo's Rasmus Dahlin.
