The Bruins made a surprising move tonight, as they announced they have fired Head Coach Bruce Cassidy. The move comes as a surprise given that there were no reports of them looking to make a change to their coaching staff and that he had signed a 3-year extension at the start of this season.

Cassidy had been the coach of the Bruins since the 2016/17 season when he was announced as the interim coach after the Bruins relieved Claude Julien of the position. In his 6 years as Bruins Head Coach he led the team to a
245-108-46 record in 399 games, making the playoffs every season and to the Cup final in 2018/19. He was also awarded the Jack Adam's trophy for the 2019/2020 season.

With a slew of veteran Head Coaches available, the Bruins may be looking to give a new voice and message to the team that could come from the likes of John Tortorella, Barry Trotz, Paul Maurice or even Mike Babcock. Regardless of who they replace Cassidy with, they will have their work cut out for them with Brad Marchand, Matt Grzlyck, Mike Rielly and Charlie MacAvoy out until at least November. On top of that, they may also be looking for a new top line center if Patrice Bergeron decides to retire.
