If it had not been for goaltender Joseph Woll, the Toronto Maple Leafs could have been down big after the first period in last night's game against the Ottawa Senators. The Leafs goaltender was making his fifth straight start and stood on his head, including robbing Vladimir Tarasenko twice, as the Leafs tried to find their legs after being off the past five days. The Leafs eventually took control of the game and found themselves with a 3-2 lead before disaster struck.

At the halfway mark of the third period, Woll made a bit of an awkward save while down in the butterfly on a backhand from the corner from Senators forward Rourke Chartier. At first, it looked as though Woll thought he had caught the puck and was down on the ice waiting for a whistle, but once the puck was seen at the side of the net, everyone knew that something was wrong. Woll remained on the ice for a few moments in pain and was helped off the ice by Ryan Reaves and T.J. Brodie as he couldn't put any weight on his left leg and that continued to be the case after the game.

Following the game, Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe gave a very blunt response when asked if there was an update on Woll before elaborating with some unfortunate news.

"No," said Keefe bluntly. "It's a setback. He's going to miss time here for sure, we'll determine the extent of it when we get home."

We can all hope that it's not an extended period of time, but when a coach says "he's going to miss some time", it usually means that the player won't be back any time soon. In his first full season with the Leafs, Woll has started to take over the number one role from Ilya Samsonov, who has been struggling to begin the season. Through 15 games, Woll was 8-5-1 with a 2.80GAA and .916 save percentage. In his recent streak of five consecutive starts, Woll was 2-1-1 with a ridiculous .929 save percentage.
