Since Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander joined the Leafs, the talk has always been about how they don't perform during the playoffs. Last year was their best post-season since they became full-time Leafs, but their performances in the 2022-23 playoffs have been exceptional by comparison. Through 4 games, the Leafs have racked up 19 goals on Andrej Vasilevskiy with their "Core 4", plus Ryan O'Reilly and Morgan Rielly also contributing at a very high level.

Through 4 games of first round action, the Leafs have 4 players in the top-10 in playoff scoring and 5 in the top-15, led by Mitch Marner's playoff-leading 10 points. Matthews, Nylander and O'Reilly have 7 points apiece while Rielly has 6. While John Tavares only has 4, he has still been a contributing factor in forechecks, faceoffs and all of the little things that help teams win. After years of questioning whether or not the Leafs' stars would show up come playoff time, we finally have the answer, or at least we hope we do.

They have been unstoppable through the first four games, but will need to play even better Thursday night for the Leafs to get out of the first round for the first time in nearly 20 years.
