Five exceptional optons for the Leafs' new goal song

After Auston Matthews told reporters he wouldn't mind seeing the Leafs finally abandon Hall and Oates' "You Make My Dreams Come True", fans have been tripping over themselves to come up with alternatives. While the song is fun and family friendly, it does little to pump up either the crowd and the team. It's time for a change. There have been a ton of songs suggested, but we've narrowed it down to five of our favourites.

5. Enter Sandman - Metallica

Starting out with one of the most iconic rock bands of all time. Enter Sandman is a classic, and a staple of any self respecting hockey playlist. It just doesn't have the celebratory feel that's needed to be a great goal song.

4. Long Forgotten Sons - Rise Against.

This one gets a vote based on its fantastic rock tempo and it's lyrical content.

Far from home on a road unknown
Where the vultures circle on winds that blow
From northern skies that haunt these waking moments
On shadows cast by the mountain range
On calloused soles we find our way
Through desperate eyes, we long for the horizon
While this sun is rising, yeah
We are the long forgotten sons
And daughters that don't belong to anyone
We are alone under this sun
We work to fix the work that you've undone

It doesn't take a ton of imagination to make these lyrics relate to the Leafs. Memories haunted by past (playoff) losses. Desperate eyes longing for the horizon (the second round) and finally the sun rising, hopefully an end to the Leafs playoff woes. I like this one, I really do, but like Enter Sandman, it's missing that upbeat, celebratory feel.

3. Kernkraft 400 - Zombie Nation

Ah, nostalgia. In truth, this one brings back a lot of great memories, and with Joe Bowen's iconic "holy mackinaw" dubbed over it, it's perfection. The problem is, Kernkraft 400 is currently being used by the Boston Bruins as their goal song, once again, the Bruins find a way to break our hearts.

2. Kickstart My Heart - Motley Crüe

A classic, an absolute banger, this song would get the crowd jumping and the player's blood pumping. Originally, this was my number 1 pick, but to trade in one 80's song for another just seems a little lazy. It's entirely possible I've overthought my picks here, because Kickstart My Heart would make an absolutely incredible goal song. I even went so far as to make a little sample video using a goal from last year's playoffs.

1. Legend - The Score

The lyrical content may not be as deep as Long Forgotten Sons, but this alt rock tune has an upbeat vibe and "don't stop till we're legends" is a fantastic rallying cry for the current generation of Leafs. It also brings the Leafs into the 21st century with their goal song, something none of the last few have done.

At this point, anything is better than that god awful Hall and Oates song. It's tacky, corny and does absolutely nothing to get the blood pumping. Any of the options listed above would easily be better than what we have now. Lets hope Auston gets his wish and we finally see a change from the Leafs.
