For Russian players in the NHL, there has been a lot of focus from their respective media markets on the ongoing Russian invasion on Ukraine. In most cases, players have obliged and responded to questions with very generic and vague answers, likely due to not wanting to put family in Russia at risk. One NHLer, however, was having none of it from the media.

This past week, Philadelphia Flyers defender Ivan Provorov let it be known that his focus is on hockey and that any unrelated questions would simply be ignored.

"I'm not here to talk about politics. I'm here to talk about hockey."

-Provorov, when asked for his thoughts on the conflict between his native Russia and Ukraine.

When asked to elaborate, Provorov wanted to make very clear the fact that he isn't interested in sharing any of his own personal political beliefs with anyone.

"If you guys have any hockey questions, you can ask me that. I'm not here to discuss politics with you. My opinion is none of your guys' business."

The 25-year-old is sure to come under fire for this one, as many will draw the conclusion that he supports Russian President Vladimir Putin. The truth of the matter is that nobody really knows what Provorov is thinking. Political conversation is not for everyone. Provorov has every right to decline to answer questions about politics. It just might not be the wisest move from an optics standpoint.
