The Philadelphia Flyers have already been dealt a bad hand and the NHL season has yet to start. On Tuesday, the club announced that forward Sean Couturier would be week-to-week with an upper-body injury. In addition, the team has taken another blow as General Manager Chuck Fletcher announced that defenceman Ryan Ellis would miss the 2022-23 season.

Last season was Ellis's first season with the Flyers. He played in four games, and he looked fantastic. He put up five points in the four games he played. Unfortunately, he suffered a lower-body injury to his pelvic and missed the rest of the season. Luckily for him, he did not need to get surgery.

Similar to Jake Gardiner, it was expected that Ellis would be back this season with his team, but that is not the case. "I don't expect him to play this season, and if he does, it's a bonus," Fletcher said. The Flyers acquired Ellis from the Nashville Predators in the 2021 off-season.

If Ellis never plays again, he had a decent career. The former 11th overall pick played 566 games with 76 goals and 199 assists for 275 points. Hopefully, Ellis will recover and can suit up again in the NHL. If not, I wouldn't be surprised if an NHL team gives him a job in the front office.
