There may be another big name defender available this summer, according to reporter Kevin Allen, as the Minnesota Wild are expected to explore the idea of moving Matt Dumba to free up some cap space.

Dumba is entering the final year of the 5-year, $30M ($6M AAV) deal he signed with the Wild back in 2018. It is worth noting that Dumba does have some trade protection in his contract, which allows him to submit a 10-team no-trade list.

If the Wild do elect to move on from Dumba in the final year of his deal, it's likely due to the cap crunch created by the $12.7M in dead cap space from the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter buyouts last summer.

Dumba, a right-shot defender, has played parts of 9 seasons, all with the Wild, who drafted him in the first round (7th overall) back in 2012. He has reached double digit goal totals in 4 of those seasons.
