In a recent interview with Marc Antoine Godin of The Athletic, Ducharme expressed his displeasure with how upper management wanted their revenge tour to pan out. It seems as though they had never looped him in as to what the expectations were for the season.
As a coach, you never want to be on the losing end of anything. Ducharme had that in mind, which speaks volumes of his competitive nature and shows that he had faith in the group that took him to the Stanley Cup Finals a year prior. Unfortunately for Ducharme, it wasn't in the cards this season.
After going 8-30-7 Ducharme was fired on February 9th and replaced with former Tampa Bay Lightning captain Martin St. Louis. The Canadiens began to show signs of life after St. Louis came into then picture, but still finished their season in last place with a record of 22-49-11, won the draft lottery and used the first overall pick to select Slovak winger Juraj Slafkovsky.
