Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov provides important update on his health status for the upcoming season
As we all know, Leafs prospect Rodion Amirov has been battling a brain tumor and there has been little in the way of updates on his status over the last few months. Through all of it, he has remained positive and has been very active in his community, whereever his treatment takes him. Today, it was announced that his current KHL club, Salavat Yulaev, and the Leafs have agreed to extend his loan there for one more season.
Amirov confirmed on Wednesday that he is training and working with the coaches over in Russia in between treatment sessions in Germany. This is a tremendous sign and hopefully leads to him being able to suit up for Ufa for some games at some point next season. That could also mean that we see Amirov in Toronto at some point next year with the Marlies or working with the team's development staff at the very least.
Amirov released a statement today saying, "Our club has done a tremendous job in terms of treatment, organization. For example, they helped me in Germany. I am very grateful to Salavat Yulaev for their support in everything. Many thanks to the management and the entire system of the club. Recovery is going great."
We wish nothing but the best for Amirov and we hope that he can make his way over the pond soon and continue to pursue his NHL career.
