The Florida Panthers seemed to be in a solid position heading into the postseason, as the NHL's top team, guaranteeing them home ice advantage throughout the playoffs. Obviously, the Panthers blew a golden opportunity this spring/summer and now changes are expected.

As a result, former Leafs winger and pending UFA Mason Marchment could be on the move from the Panthers this off-season. There has been some talk of a potential reunion between Marchment and the Leafs, but a report suggests that the Leafs may have some competition for his services in the form of an Atlantic Division rival.

According to the Fourth Period, Marchment, 27, has been linked to the Boston Bruins.

The Leafs originally traded Marchment back in 2020 for forward Denis Malgin, a player who is no longer in the NHL. Marchment, however, had a career year this season with the Panthers, notching 18 goals and 29 assists for 47 points in 53 games - all of which are career highs. He will certainly command a pay increase from his current cap hit of $800K.

Nobody could have predicted this breakout season from Marchment, as there was nothing really anywhere in his scoring history to suggest that it was coming. On the bright side, the Leafs could have a second chance with Marchment, should GM Kyle Dubas wish to extend the Uxbridge, ON native a contract offer.
